About Voyager
The voyager twin probes were launched in 1977 with the mission to explore the outer planets of our solar system. The primary missions are complete, however Voyager 1 & Voyager 2 are continuing to report discoveries and will do so until around 2025. Although the two Voyagers have captured some remarkable photos of our planets and their moons, the most famous shot was taken when Voyager 1 was commanded to turn around and take a final photo of earth as the probe was leaving our solar system. At 6 billion kilometers, our home appears smaller than a pixel. The image, named Pale Blue Dot, forces us to put our existence into perspective as our planet appears as a tiny speck suspended in a lightbeam. Astronomer Carl Sagan, who was the one who requested the photo be taken, noted "the earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena". JPL · Wikipedia
